48 views //I have visited Sunset Beach in Cape May, New Jersey every summer from the time I was five years old. This sunken ship stood much higher in the Atlantic Ocean when I was a little girl. It sinks more and more into the ocean floor every year. Here’s some info on it.
In 1926, the “Atlantus” was towed to Cape May, New Jersey. A Baltimore firm was attempting to start a ferry service from Cape May, New Jersey to Lewes, Delaware. It was planned to have a channel dredged well into shore. The “Atlantus” would then be forced into the channel. A special drawbridge type of device was to be mounted on the exposed end. Two other bulks would be sunk at angles creating a “Y” shape. The ferry would dock by wedging in and cars and passengers would load and unload by use of the drawbridge.
While awaiting positioning, the “Atlantus” broke loose of her moorings during a storm June 8th, 1926 and went aground. Several attempts were made to free the “Atlantus” – they were futile.
Thousands of visitors come annually to view the cracked weather-beaten hull and collect beautiful “Cape May Diamonds” that lie in abundance on Sunset Beach in Historic Cape May Point, New Jersey.

I posted this image on my own blog today, but thought that I would share it with you all too. It was taken in between rain storms from the top of the Vaughn Center at the University of Tampa. I love the different colors in our beautiful downtown!

This is an image of one of my Dad’s bands, The Nazz, as they played at Westchester Park Recreation Center in Los Angeles sometime between 1965-1967. My dad, Rich Morrison, is on the far right, singing and playing lead guitar. The guy on the left playing bass is Tom Beal. The drummer is John Melville, and I believe the guy in the middle center is Bob Wallin. Bob Wallin is actually writing a book about my Dad, and I think this image will be in that book. My Dad had asked me to retouch this image. The top is the image as I retouched it and the bottom image was the image as I received it. I’m not the best at retouching, but it does look better. Unfortunately, I do not know who took this photograph, but if anyone does, email me so I can give proper credit.

I took these photos of a young and talented former student of mine named Shelby in Sea Isle City, New Jersey. She just graduated from high school. When she was done, a guy yelled, “Stay in music! Don’t go into architect school!” She was great and she was and still is very beautiful.

The city of St. Augustine was founded by the Spanish in 1565. Over the next one hundred years, the city was defended by nine wooden forts. Following the 1668 attack of the English pirate Robert Searle, it was decided by the Queen Regent of Spain, Mariana, that a masonry fortification be constructed to protect the city. In October 1672 construction began on the fort that would become the Castillo de San Marcos.
