A Summer Dream

A Summer Dream

Went to Dunnellon today to swim, snorkel and shoot the waterfalls. I used my ND8X filter stacked with my circular polarizer and some of my images were too dark. I sometimes hate the Oly's preview window because the images will show up so bright and pretty, and then I get home and find they are too dark. I shoot RAW so I can adjust the exposure, but I just hate it when I think it is perfect and find out it isn't. The lighting was a bit harsh before I finished shooting, so we went swimming, planning to go back and shoot later. Of course, with 3 kids along, that isn't easy. I just have the one son, but 2 of his friends came along. So, while I got a few keepers, I would have liked to have gotten more. Guess we will be going back again before school starts so I will get another chance. The funny thing though was that I had better luck the first time I ever shot a waterfall! The first time I shot one was at this same place over a year and a half ago.

Monster In The Blue Lagoon

Monster In The Blue Lagoon

I took this photo today while my son and his friend were playing in the pool. Justin has just learned to blow the water out of his snorkel after diving down. He is a great swimmer and began taking swimming lessons at about age 4 1/2 while he was in daycare. We lived in several apts. in Alabama with pools, and he got better and better. While he has recently been practicing with his snorkel, I have been practicing with swim fins. We plan to put our practice to good use Monday when we head for Rainbow Springs in Dunnellon, FL. Of course, I will bring along the camera for some shots of the man-made, but very realistic, waterfalls there. If you have never been there before and don't live too far away, I highly recommend visiting. You don't see realistic waterfalls like this in FL. Not only is it perfect for trying your hand at capturing a waterfall (if you haven't had the chance yet), it is also a beautiful park with a nice, cold spring for swimming. And nearby, you can go tubing on the river. One recommendation, be careful if you get directions from Mapquest. When we went last year, we took the wrong road because we followed the Mapquest directions, and we went quite a distance out of our way. I may have chosen the wrong address from the list they gave me, but it was still a great inconvenience, so just make sure you choose the right address.

Waterway

Hi. I am Carol and live in Spring Hill. I love taking photos and have always had some kind of camera since I can remember, although they were always of the point and shoot variety. In 2004, I bought my first digital camera, a Nikon Coolpix Point & Shoot, and when I moved to FL, I began to shoot sunsets. It wasn’t long before I realized the limitations of my camera and decided I had to have a DSLR. I now shoot with an Olympus eVolt E-500 and am quite happy with it. Of course, one day I want to upgrade, but right now, I love my camera. I shoot a variety of things, not having a clear favorite. I enter contests on BetterPhoto.com and have a gallery there.

This is an image that was taken along the Intercoastal Waterway near Indian Rocks Beach. I took it from a boat as we slowly cruised along, watching for dolphins. I enjoy the reflections and patterns. I changed it to B&W because it had very little color to begin with. It was taken late in the evening just a few hours before sunset.

I know we are supposed to post what we are watching or listening to, and I think that is a fun way to learn more about one another. However, I am unsure where to post this info and this time, because it is so late, I am listening to neither the TV nor radio. My hubby is alseep and so is my son and his friend who spent the night tonight. So all is quiet right now. :)
