Who knew that they had such individual faces?! And that’s not all, did you know that they lay their eggs in or near water sometimes submerging themselves to put eggs on a good surface. But wait, did you know that while in the nymph form (before they leave the water to fly) they breath thru gills in their rectum and they move themselves rapidly by propelling water thru the anus! No, I’m not making this up! Straight out of Wikipedia!

Green!!

We were at Fanning Springs and it was a cool day, so this little guy was warming his tummy on an aluminum floating dock. He was SO green that he looked like he had moss growing on him!

No, not stones……..Manatees!

There were six of these large “stones” lying on the floor of Fanning Springs. Until they moved up to blow and get air I could not tell they were alive.

Do I smell fish?

This was taken at Fanning Springs in Chiefland. I was amazed that he was not overly concerned with me. Of course, it is nice to have a 300mm lens so that occasionally you can see them before they smell you.
