Feed My People

Something that keeps coming up in my life. The homeless and the hungry. I recently did a 28 day fast and detox and one week of it consisted of juicing. It was the hardest week of my life.. my stomach hurt so much (in a way I can’t describe to you) that toward the end of the seven days I had to break my fast a day early.

I guess it gave me a better understanding of what hunger looks and feels like. I could have fixed that problem at any point and just started eating. Some people don’t have that choice. They have to rely on the mercy of others. It doesn’t matter how they got there. Going hungry shouldn’t happen anywhere.

I went on this trip and met Chris Gardner (The Pursuit of Happyness.) His story confirmed that even the smartest, most ambitious people can wind up (through circumstances beyond their control) to be homeless and hungry. One can of food can make the difference in a person’s life. Give freely from your poverty as the widow did and He will give you beauty for your ashes.

This is no exaggeration; I ask the girl at the front desk of the hotel how to get there and she said it was a few blocks down. I thought, “Hey, I will walk it …” I thought my lungs were going to explode (or implode!) The elevation and the climb up there was REALLY high! I was sweating in 20 degree weather! Got my cardio in for the next months and then some … lol

The Temple

The Mormons lead by their prophet Joseph Smith fled to Utah to avoid persecution in the 1800′s. This was the first of the temples that they erected after settling in Salt Lake City. Upon Joseph Smith death Brigham Young became their leader. Their temple grounds now spands roughly 35 acres of Salt Lake City of with roughly 70 to 80 % of the population are Mormons. Young Mormans come to the temple from all over the world after they have worked and saved enough money to pay their personal expenses and volunteer for 18 months as missionaries at this temple which is surrounded by yet a larger temple, the hall where the Mormon Tabernacle Choir is housed, a library, historical building and a larger building that would appear to be some type of administrative offices, smaller churches and the missionary housing.

I was in Utah on business and of course took my camera with me. I didn’t get a chance to see a lot of the area but Salt Lake City is awesome. The people there are a joy and made us feel welcome.

Sometimes I get so focused on everything that is going on that I forget to stop and look at the all pretty little things that we take for granted… I also get so particular about photographing the details that I forget to look at the bigger picture and appreciate that as well.

I don’t normally take photos of people; I’m more into wildlife, animals and nature but I just couldn’t resist this.
