My father was a Merchant Mariner on the U.S.S. John Ericsson during WWII. This is one of his photos after D-Day and is of U.S. Troops disembarking in LaHaure, France on their way to Berlin. Thank you to all Veterans.

Happy New Years

It was heck just to get to this thing for 10 seconds of excitement. But that’s one more thing checked off my list of things to do, I guess.

St. Giles Cathedral

This was taken when I traveled to Scotland with several of my college friends. We had taken a class in the Reformation (when leaders in the movement broke away from some of the Catholic Theology and created the Protestant movement…that is a very brief summary. Read up more on Martin Luther, who for the first time realized “it’s about grace” and John Calvin to learn more) and were so intrigued by the history of Edinburgh. Anyway, a lot of the Reformation movement in Scotland was lead by John Knox who happened to be buried behind this cathedral. There is so much amazing history in this church.

I also like the contrast of modernity (the red phone booths) with history (the gray cathedral).

This shot was taken while I was studying abroad in Sevilla, Spain about four years ago. It’s one of my favorites with the Plaza de Espana appearing to be gold, the moon, and the mirror-like reflection in the water.
Listening to: La Puente de Triana (a song our Spanish friends consistently played in their cars.)

It’s a Winner

There is nothing especially dramatic about this photo, other than it was a winner for a challenge posed by Mr. Tillis on a recent trip to Amsterdam. He found a shot and asked me to see if I could capture the same image. Scroll over to see the original.
