I caught this one by chance. I just love the way she is holding her little hands and the soft look on her sweet face. When I see such innocence in a little child, I just can’t understand why anyone would hurt a little child. Lord have mercy on the little children.

While in South Carolina, my brother, Jake, and I took our own little safari one afternoon. After searching for about an hour, we finally found this old graveyard just outside of the Batesburg downtown. Jake was working with an old Holga and infrared film and got some pretty cool images (if he posts them to a blog, I’ll put up a link). In my image, you can see him setting up shop over to the left of the graveyard. What impressed us both was the gigantic old oak that protected all of the old graves. Really cool.

In South Carolina, the people have deep roots. They have lived there all their lives as have their parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. As a sort of tribute, they never tear down the old family homestead. They leave it where it is. You see old shacks like this everywhere–often next to a new home. I think it’s pretty cool that they preserve that part of their history.

Still his own boss, my Dad can make it happen. Maybe not in the way or time frame that some would do things, but he gets it done. He’s always been that way. Three years ago when he decided to build another house for my Mom and himself at the age of 57, my sibs and I were a little worried about such a huge undertaking. Three years and a quadruple bypass later, that house is almost done. It is amazingly beautiful. A kind of architectural piece of art if you sit and listen to why he created each little detail of that house down by the lake. He has a reason for everything!! I just hope I can follow his out-of-the-box thinking as I travel through my own life.
